Metallic Buddha (Collage ATC) 3/19/09 | My first attempt at collage. This collage is on a 2.5" x 3.5" card, otherwise known as an Artist Trading Card. I will be experimenting with many different collage techniques in this size.
I have wanted to branch out into collage for quite some time. Hopefully I will be able to eventually apply my expanded skills and knowledge to full size collage work that is distinctive and unique.
"Metallic Buddha" was created by embossing on metal tape and using alcohol inks, gold mica flakes medium, and metallic pens. It is definitely strange, but not a bad first effort I think.

Dawn McLaughlin: New Work! Night Sky Series (Miniatures) 3/10/09 | Four 5x7 hand textured panels featuring the same night sky, lightning and grassy field. In each piece the viewer sees the back of a woman. Each of these paintings represent a search for something. They were completed mostly with acrylic and oil pastel. I intend to have prints, note cards and bookmarks of them soon. Please send me your comments. I would very much appreciate your insights on this new work. Click on New Work! Night Sky Series to view all four paintings.

Dawn McLaughlin To blog or not to blog that is the... 8/12/08I have filled many journals with my thoughts, angst, and revelations about art. Where I am (often stuck), where I'm going, how I'm getting there.
I love to write -it is great therapy for an artist. But blogging? I keep resisting it. It's the thing to do if one wants an increased internet presence, or so I'm told.
But I am a private person. I am not an internet age person. I do not feel comfortable living my private thoughts in public. But beyond that, why should anyone care about my private struggles and revelations? Except to me, I think it's pretty boring stuff.
I prefer my artwork to speak for itself. It is what is unique about me. It is an expression of who I am. The rest is just process-- something for me to muddle through.
Have to confess, I just don't get the whole blogging thing.

Dawn McLaughlin Family Album life stories 8/5/08 | I have always been interested in interpretations of the Family Album, Depression Era portraits. It seems that everyone senses a life story in and behind the faces.
I would love to hear your thoughts about these people: who you think they are, what their life experiences have been...It also seems that everyone is attracted to one of these people in particular. Which one is your favorite and why?
Go to Art Prints or Note Cards galleries and zoom in on each portrait to get a more intimate look.

| Love your art! Absolutely love the stories they tell. The value in blogging it that it is a replacement for serious advertising. Costs less than advertising! Selling your stories; selling your brand! Good luck! | -- Randy, 8/12/08
